Planting a Garden

I have been working overtime getting our garden ready to plant.  It's exhilarating to me and I LOVE it!  the neighbors got some mink poop and shared with us... STINKY!!!  But is sure makes the soil nice and dark.  A couple tips on natural compost from the Farmers Market Magazine.

1. Never use fresh poop as it is too "hot".   You need to compost it (till into the garden) let it sit for several weeks before planting...I always wait for 2 - 3 weeks.

2.  Chicken Manure is the best as it is the richest, is high in nitrogen and ferments easily.
3. Horse, Cow, Pig and Sheep manure are all good and have different values to them.
4.  Human waste, as well as that of dogs and cats, is not recommended as manure or fertilizer today.

Now, once you have the garden tilled and ready to go, there are several plants that I would HIGHLY recommend you include in your garden, as they have natural healing properties and are fantastic to have when you need something immediately:

1. Onions & Garlic!  God's antibiotics... cures colds, flu, strep and sore throats and saves tons of money you normally would spend at the doctor.
2. Raspberries.  The raspberry plant is a specific and a must for women.  It aids in all ailments of a female nature: heavy bleeding, no bleeding, sporadic periods, cramps, menopause symptoms, preparing for having babies, difficulties having babies, miscarriages, etc.  Check out Dr. Christopher's website for more information.  You will be glad you did.
3. Carrots.  The all around healthy food.  Will help keep you from getting sick, especially during cold and flu season.
4. Blue berries.  A natural anti-oxidant and yummy yummy to eat.
5.  Lots of the greens... lettuce, broccoli, romaine, green beans, green peppers, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, etc.
6. And finally, marigolds, because they keep away the bugs and they are great herb, plus, they are pretty.

Enjoy the garden and may you be blessed with enough to share.
